Wear the Harrington in the spirit of “BRIT POP.”

STYLE JOURNAL

This style is centered around a Harrington jacket, consciously balanced with a "BRIT POP" sensibility that carries a hint of music. While it possesses a British mood, it doesn't lean too polished. With shepherd checks, faded black, a clean shirt, and zip-up boots at the feet, we've styled this with the distinct interpretation typical of apartir, moving between tradition and youth culture.

The protagonist is the [SCYE BASICS] Cotton Gaberdine Reversible Jacket. This jacket features a reversible design that allows both the cotton gabardine side and the 100% wool shepherd check side to take center stage. For this look, we intentionally chose to wear the shepherd check side out, adding a more British depth to the light, airy feel characteristic of a Harrington. Designed to be worn with the collar up or down, it offers depth even when folded, making it a piece that leaves a distinct mark on your styling while remaining a classic blouson.

While the Harrington jacket often carries a straightforward, sporty image, choosing the shepherd check side leans the mood decisively toward the British. By pairing it not with denim, but with trousers that have a slightly drier texture, the silhouette of "BRIT POP"—imbued with the atmosphere of music and culture—emerges, rather than just a casual look.

Creating a faded black look with SCYE BASICS chinos

For the pants, we chose the [SCYE BASICS] San Joaquin Cotton Chino Pleated Trousers. These original chino cloths, made from high-quality cotton from California's San Joaquin Valley, have the crisp, dry touch unique to high-density fabrics, and they develop a rich character the more they are worn. Furthermore, the bio-wash processing—a first for this series—is designed to provide a natural faded look from the very first wear. The double-pleated front, deep rise, and wide-tapered cut that narrows cleanly toward the hem give them a volume that never looks sloppy, making them the perfect piece for dressing down a jacket style without breaking the overall aesthetic.

In this instance, we want to capture these trousers with an image that highlights the faded black. Not a stark black, but a slightly worn-in, faded shade. That ambiguous allure meshes well with the British flavor of the shepherd check. It has the nonchalance of a musician’s personal wardrobe while maintaining a beautifully sharp silhouette. That is how SCYE leaves a lasting impression of quality.

Refining the silhouette with an apartir atelier fly-front shirt

For the inner layer, we used the [apartir atelier] 100/2 Supima Cotton Grosgrain Fly Front Shirt. The combination of 100/2 Supima cotton, grosgrain, and a fly-front design quietly pulls the entire look together without being overly assertive. The charm of the BRIT POP style lies in a somewhat rough, languid mood, but by inserting a clean shirt like this, it prevents the look from appearing unkempt. It is an excellent role-player, acting as the boundary that ensures the style looks refined even while being undone.

For the feet, we are in the mood for adding a bit of weight with zip-up boots rather than loafers. By grounding the blouson, shirt, and trousers—a style that tends to flow horizontally—with the vertical lines and firmness of the boots, we can tilt the look further toward that "musical" mood.

Layering a khaki soutien collar coat in midwinter to add a touch of Mods

And, to deepen this style further in the heart of winter, we would want to layer a khaki soutien collar coat on top. A piece like the [FRENCH ARMY] Soutien Collar Coat—with its fly-front, long length, and the balance of military-derived practicality and a sharp impression—fits this mood exceptionally well. The orthodox collar, the khaki hue, and the slightly rugged background; by layering it over the light, airy Harrington, you can naturally bridge the gap from Britpop toward a more Mod-inspired atmosphere.

A shepherd check Harrington, faded black chinos, a clean fly-front shirt, and zip-up boots. Add a khaki soutien collar coat for winter. It isn’t flashy, yet it certainly has mood. This interpretation of "BRIT POP" is a style where one can enjoy both the perfection of ready-to-wear clothing and the personal sense of curation.
