"Reconstructing a classic" - Gurkha shorts for midsummer, made with Ventile cotton
The design of these shorts is based on the idea of "combining functionality and elegance."
Gurkha shorts, which have their roots in military uniforms, are extremely rational and streamlined from their origins. At the same time, they have a certain elegance to their structural beauty. I wanted to recreate that appeal in a pair of shorts that is suitable for modern city dwellers.
The Ventile option
The fabric used for these shorts is "Ventile Cotton", which was developed for the Royal Air Force .
This extremely densely woven material is a well-balanced fabric that is water-repellent and windproof, while retaining the breathability and texture of natural fibers.
A design with military roots is naturally suited to military-originated materials.
However, Ventile is not just about functionality, but rather seeks to have an appearance that expresses high quality. It does not look flashy, but the true essence of this fabric resides in the dull luster it has when it catches the light and the dense feel it gives when you hold it.
Tailored shorts
These shorts are not a shortened version of summer trousers, but rather tailored pants optimized for summer.
- The deep rise provides a sense of security and comfort around the waist while maintaining a classic look.
- The two-pleat pleats give room around the waist while flattering the leg line.
- The side adjuster design ensures a beautiful fit around the waist even without a belt.
- The hem is light and double-finished , giving it a relaxed feel that goes well with both a jacket and sandals.
At first glance, this pair of pants may be classified as "shorts," but I put the most effort into ensuring that they were balanced as "trousers that can be worn in the summer."
Between style and comfort
I am constantly thinking about how to respect the classics while also bringing them into the modern era.
These shorts are designed to be comfortable, yet still maintain a dignified appearance .
The design has a sense of space that would suit a Parisian linen jacket or a Naples short-sleeved shirt.
Wear it in town, on the go, with a jacket or sandals.
